**We are
currently not able to look at any work from new authors. Please check our status
regarding
new submissions
again in a few months.**
Ideally we
would like to talk to you about what you would like to show us. Please call us during
office hours, although
between 9-10am
and 3-5pm are the best times for us to speak to you.

If you are ringing on behalf of someone else,
please don't.
The author themselves must show that they have the confidence to call and talk about
their writing. This is
the first
thing a publisher will be looking to see. The number to call is: 0116 273 5697.
We do not
charge a reading fee and we will
look at everything that is sent to us. We will try
and give honest feedback if time
allows.
We prefer
it if new authors choose to send their work to us exclusively but if your submission
has been seen by other
agents and
publishers we need to know this history and details of the responses you have had.
If you
wish to send without calling first please see below.
Guidelines for Submission
We require
a synopsis, first 3 chapters and a dated covering letter. We like it if you tell
us something about yourself and
your writing
in your letter. Your submission should be accompanied by a SAE for our reply. We
will not usually return the
material with
our response so if you do want your pages back please make this clear in your letter
and ensure that the
SAE has adequate
postage for this purpose.
Your chapters
should be double-spaced and be one side of text to one sheet of paper. The manuscript
should be loose
leaves, so
no staples or bindings.
You should
send your submission to:

Some Advice for New Writers....
You would
not attempt to make music if you did not listen to it, so why do so many people think
they can write when they
do not read? You can learn a vast amount by knowing
what is out there on the shelves and what is doing well. It is so very
useful to be able to talk about your work
in the context of the work of other successful
writers and to be aware of the genres
and age groups involved in children's fiction.
